Hanukkah, 1922

Jewish Daily News. 17 December, 1922, p. 15. The National Library of Israel.

Brooklyn Times Union, 21 December, 1922, p. 5. Chronicling America.

For whatever reason, the 1922 version of the Jewish holiday seemed to be making less of an impact in NYC  than it did  in the prior years of the 1920s, when photos of celebrations appeared in the papers. See our coverage of Hanukkah in 1921 and 1920–including a related feature about Hanukkah history in the New York Institute of Technology website. (Click here.)

Hanukkah popped up in the 1922 Yiddish newspapers, especially in the advertisements. Cigars and books were among the suggested gifts.
