One hundred years ago today … New Yorkers celebrated the nomination of a woman to a major political position: Harriet May Mills, Syracuse-area suffrage activist, had been nominated by the New York Democratic Party for the position of Secretary of State. In Brooklyn newspapers, women lauded the nomination.
